36-year-old Meb Keflezighi Wins Trials

HOUSTON (AP) — Meb Keflezighi won the U.S. Olympic men's marathon trial on Saturday to qualify for his third Games. Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirahman finished second and third to also make the team that will represent the U.S. in London.

Keflezighi covered the course in a personal-best 2 hours, 9 minutes and 8 seconds. The 36-year-old Keflezighi will return to the Olympics after winning silver in the 2004 marathon in Athens.

The 29-year-old Hall won the 2008 marathon trial in a record 2:09.02. He was back in one of his favorite cities to run, where he won the 2007 U.S. Half Marathon championship in an American record time of 59:43.

The 33-year-old Abdirahman will compete in his fourth Olympics. He qualified in the 10,000 meters in the previous three Games.

Ryan Hall ran 2:09:30 and Abdi finished in 2:09:47.  First time that three runners have broken 2:10 at the US Olympic Trials. 


Shalane Flanagan Wins the Women's Race

Shalane Flanagan beat Desi Davila to claim first place in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston at Saturday, finishing in a Trials record 2:25:37. Kara Goucher finished a close third to make the team. Davila drew heaps of attention in the 2011 Boston Marathon, finished second place by just two seconds at 2:22:38, the fastest women's finish in Boston history. But Flanagan is has now beaten Davila all six times the pair have raced against each other.
