One of the best performances of the day at the Kauai Half Marathon held Sept 2 was turned in by 65-year-old Ron Pate. He ran 1:34:41 on a tough but beautiful course. There were 1186 finishers. Troy Harrison from Waterfall Penna was the overall winner in 1:15:15. Emily Shertzer was first female running 1:21:19. Tyler McCandless won the full marathon for the second straight year. He missed beating his course record by 19 seconds. He finished in 2:23:52. Brett Ely of Natick, Mass smashed the women's course record posting 2:46:02. Therewere 643 marathon finishers.
