I started the race with Shahid, Keith, Martin, and Amit. We split up on the first climb. I ran from O'Brien Creek to Steamboat Ranch with Allison MacLean. I ran with with Martin Sengo from Steamboat Ranch to Seattle Bar. My feet got really messed between Seattle Bar and Squaw Lakes. Dr. Neil and others tried to patch me up but I had to get out of the shoes I was wearing (Altra Olympus 6). I got nauseated at around 2 PM on Stein Butte. The nausea would last for the next 26 hours through the Sunday finish. I ran with various people from Hanley Gap to Dutchman Peak (the 3 Georgia boys, Jenifer Rishel, Tall Andy Sutterfield, and Desiree Barnes. I took a 30 minute nap in Chris' car from 2:30 AM to 3:00 AM, and two more dirt napes on the PCT. I ran with Vinnie Difrancesco, Tall Andy Sutterfield, and his pacer Ben from Dutchman Peak to Grouse Gap. I ran the final 8 miles with the sweeper, Eric Johnson from Glen Ellen, CA. It was great to meet a Sonoma local for the final miles to the finish. Chris Sanford and Tall Andy's crew chief (Sean) crewed me at Squaw Lakes, Hanley Gap, Dutchman Peak, and Grouse Gap. Sanford did an excellent job crewing me. This was his 4th time doing it and he gets better every single time!
I was nauseated for the last 26 hours (miles 35-100.5), but never barfed. I did not burp up any blood. No bloody diarrhea or vomiting blood. I did not take a dump until we got back to the hotel on Sunday night. I believe there was a light amount of digested blood in my stool, but it was nothing like the bloody dumps I took at Hardrock, TRT, and AC100.
Drugs taken: 2 Tylenol, some TUMS, a few sips of Kava, and caffeine from gels and coffee.
I finally feel like myself again! Slow but on the mend.
I finished in last place overall. Humbled but very happy to finish feeling relatively good!
I wore 5 different pair of shoes:
Mile 0-15.5: Hoka Mafate 2 EVO (blue/green)
Mile 15.5-28.5: Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% 2 (pink/orange)
Mile 28.5-41: Altra Olympus 6 (orange gray) - Created open wounds on my heels. Had to stop 4 times to try to patch up my feet. I tried bandaids, medical tape, KT tape, and duct tape. Got to Squaw Lakes and some crew people patched me up with moleskin and Leukotape.
Mile 41-66: Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% 2 (pink/orange)
Mile 66-80: Altra Olympus 5 (gray/teal)
Mile 80-100.5: Altra Olympus 4 (blue)
