We are in the midst of a rapidly growing wildfire. Although 10 miles to the west, the smoke is permeating the sky and those of us on the east side of town can smell the smoke and feel the heaviness in the air. I opted to not run the trail race this morning due to the smoke, but went to cheer runners on. The race, in Palmer Park, was a very good course. Tough with lots of terrain and elevation changes. After the run I did two more workouts. I rode about 41k on my road bike and it was hot. Wind chill(?) at about 94 degrees. We had high temp of 100 today. Unheard of here in Springs. I then did just over 45 minutes in the pool. Total of 4 hours of exercise. Tired, but happy with my efforts today. Hopeful that the fires will abate and people can return to their homes.
Nancy, that is a lot of hours to work out in one day...but it sounds like you enjoyed it!!! Hope they get the fires under control...stay safe!!!Bob Anderson 6/25/12 7:56 am

Ran up Mount Washington Auto Road on Friday to "scout out" the race with John Stifler and Ken Derry. I moved a bit ahead as I wanted to try and run 1:30-1:40 up. I ran 1:42 up and one hour down. The downhill is a slammer! Plus there are cars and motorcycles going up/coming down so you have to stay alert. There were NO issues with the vehicular traffic and I hope that Pikes Peak Highway can open the road to runners as well. I think it would be a great addition for athletes to be able to train up the Pikes Peak Highway. I wasn't sore on Friday after the run, felt great and fit. Had a busy day working with the race officials that evening for the pre-race presentation and then resting up for the big day Saturday. An amazing race on the "hill" Saturday. We selected our men's U.S. Mountain Running Team. A story can be found at this link. http://www.examiner.com/article/coloradoans-victorious-at-u-s-mountain-running-championships Photo is of Tommy Manning finishing and me cheering him on.

Yes indeed. A bit of snow had fallen the night before and the mountain was capped in white. Nancy Hobbs 4/16/12 4:50 pm

Are you doing a pool run because you can't run on the roads?

This is more than super cool! I find posting all my workouts at week's end works best. I also love the secret training tip I just saw today...so I posted something. Happy to post more tips for the trails if you are interested. Just back from a 4-day trail running camp working with some great new and veteran trail runners. Inspiration pouring both ways...from the campers and from the instructors. Happy Monday, Best, NancyNancy Hobbs 4/30/12 6:59 am
