Wichita masters/open meet

Just before the 2000 steeple run, I look good for now, not so much later in the day.

CommentsI've been a runner most of my life. Runners are a great group of people to be around.
Fitness StatementI race myself (watch) all the time. I do 5k's with my family, and masters track meets. I've ran a timed mile on my birthday for the past 26years. Like a lot of people I did most of the sports in high school. In the 80's I competed against some of the world's best athletes at the time in (America's MVP) in Wichita Ks..

runnerWichita open/masters track meet was my first outdoor meet of the year after injuring my back in May. Ran 2000 meter steeple, 3000 meter, and 5000 meter for my first posts of the year. After gaining weight, and temperature into the 100's this wasn't the best conditions for PR's. The best thing about the meet is that my back injury was not an issue. I have two more meets (Halstead, Topeka) to post a mile, and 1500 times. Then I can focus on the Manhattan Double November 9, 2013.

runnerWow Brad, I can't believe you ran those 3 events the same day in those temps. How are you feeling after that?????
Bill Dunn 9/8/13 5:18 pm
runnerI'm OK Bill thanks; it wasn't racing after the steeple for me just running; the top of my thighs were burning and hurting. We managed the heat by staying under the stadium in the halls in the air conditioning. I was the only one running the steeple, Tony Brown an Ultrarunner ran the 3,

runnerBrad, you have to live up to that Kansas tradition of tough runners. Sounds like you did. But the color red sucks in the heat and doesn't reflect it. Perhaps a lighter colored vest the next time?
Richard Stiller 9/9/13 8:27 am
runnerRichard now you tell me; we're never to old to learn, but I like red. Thanks for the kind words; the day was a character builder, we never know our limits until we push on.
Brad Chatfield 9/9/13 7:10 pm
runnerGlad you are back on track...a triple no less...

runnerOn Saturday I got to meet, and talk to one of Kansas' (America's) greatest runners ever, John Mason. It never really surprises me that people that have achieved greatness in their lives are most of the time, just great people. John Mason is a really great guy, I'm so proud to have met him.

runnerThanks Richard, it was much better than I excepted. I don't race very often past a 5K, and with very little training of any kind the past two months, I was running on my gift, and my mental toughness. This was FUN, and very satisfying; on to the Manhattan Ks. Double.
